Absence
A telephone call is required for all absences; please ring the school office if your child is unable to come to school. Government legislation (1991) obliges schools to record all absences and the Educational Welfare Officer will check repeated unexplained absences. A letter should accompany the child on his/her return to school, stating the reason for absence.
Children should not return to school before they are well. Generally, a child in the middle of a course of medicine should not return to school, as it is difficult to administer medicines safely in school. If medicines have to be administered in school, they should be clearly labelled with the doctor’s name, dosage and child’s name. A permission form will also be required. These forms are available from the school office. Parents should only send sufficient medicine for the required doses. Doctors usually prescribe medicines at intervals, which avoid doses being necessary during school time.
